Public Policy

Disability Rights Nebraska analyzes state and federal legislation as well as government policies and regulations impacting the legal and human rights of people with disabilities. These issues may be addressed directly to lawmakers and Disability Rights Nebraska serves as a resource to others who are advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities. We also work in collaboration with other advocacy groups such as the Nebraska Parity Coalition and the Nebraska Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities to implement new programs or to effectuate disability policy reform. Our Public Policy Team provides informational presentations and conducts public meetings throughout the state to increase public awareness of current disability issues. The Public Policy Team is also involved in presenting trainings about advocacy which stress the importance of political, legislative, and social involvement as necessary to advance rights, social value, and appropriate public policies for people with disabilities.
