 e theory of Social Role Valorization (SRV) grew out of what many people kn
 ow as “normalization.”  This introductory workshop to SRV will present (a)
  the common life experiences of people who are marginalized and devalued i
 n our society\, and (b) SRV as a way to address some of these experiences 
 in order to support people to become valued members of the community.   \n
 \nTHE WORKSHOP IS DESIGNED TO ASSIST PARTICIPANTS TO:\n•	Reflect on devalua
 tion and how it affects the lives of people who are at risk.\n•	Learn about
  the concept of SRV\, which is an organized way of addressing devaluation 
 (both in one’s personal and work life).\n•	Have an opportunity to examine p
 ersonal values and commitments to people who are devalued\, and to be rene
 wed. \n\nWHO SHOULD ATTEND?  Anyone who seriously desires a deeper underst
 anding of the common life experiences of persons who are devalued and desi
 res to work to make life better for such persons\, e.g.\, human service wo
 rkers\, people with disabilities\, advocates\, and family members.  \n\nWO
 RKSHOP LEADER The workshop will be presented by Darcy Elks\, M.A.  Darcy h
 as been involved with persons who are societally devalued for many years a
 nd has worked throughout the United States\, Canada and Australia.  She ha
 s worked in a variety of human services\, conducted many training events\,
  evaluated services\, and has been a consultant to programs that are striv
 ing for quality.   As well\, Darcy has been an advocate for persons with d
 isabilities.   She is a mother of three children\, one of whom has a disab
 ility. \n\nWHEN AND WHERE WILL THE WORKSHOP BE HELD? The Social Role Valor
 ization workshop will be held on June 4\, 5 & 6\, 2014 at Nebraska Wesleya
 n University\, 5000 St. Paul Ave.\, Lincoln\, NE.  \n\nHOW MUCH WILL IT CO
 ST TO ATTEND?   Attendees will be charged a $250.00 workshop registration 
 fee.  \n\nIS ATTENDANCE LIMITED?   Attendance at the Social Role Valorizat
 ion workshop will be limited to 50 attendees.  To ensure a spot\, register
  early.  The registration deadline is May 23\, 2014.\n\nFULL PARTICIPATION
  AND ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED   Participants should arrive well-rested and p
 lan to be free of outside commitments for this workshop.   If you register
  to attend\, please plan on attending required discussion and work session
 s lasting into early evening.  \n\nLODGING INFORMATION  Participants are r
 esponsible for making their own lodging reservations.   The registration f
 ee does not cover lodging costs.  The New Victorian Inn & Suites is locate
 d in close proximity to the College and a block of rooms are guaranteed fo
 r a discounted price at a first come/first served basis. Just ask for the
