How We Are Funded
Disability Rights Nebraska receives financial support from a variety of funding sources. Each federal program has an appropriations component which helps to fund the work of Disability Rights Nebraska. We receive funding from the State of Nebraska which is integrated with the federal funds to carry out a broad range of other advocacy approaches to promote empowerment of people with disabilities within Nebraska. Disability Rights Nebraska also pursues a variety of public and private grants to further enhance our services. Individual donations are gratefully accepted and very important to maintaining flexibility in our advocacy work and our independence.
Following is a list of our major sources of funding for FY 2019 (October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2019):
Federally funded program to provide individual and systems advocacy to secure assistive technology devices and services for people with disabilities. FY 2019 Grant Award: $50,000.
Federally funded program to provide advocacy and assistance to any beneficiary of Social Security who is trying to secure or regain employment and to otherwise protect their rights under the law. FY 2019 Grant Award: $100,000.
Federally funded program to protect and advocate for the rights of individuals with developmental disabilities. FY 2019 Federal Grant Award: $404,556.
Federally funded program to protect and advocate for the rights of people with mental illness and investigate reports of abuse and neglect in facilities that care for or treat individuals with mental illness. FY 2019 Federal Grant Award: $428,000.
Federally funded program to protect and advocate for the rights of people with disabilities who would not be eligible for the PADD or PAIMI programs. FY 2019 Federal Grant Award: $171,598.
Federally funded program to provide advocacy assistance to people who experience a traumatic brain injury. FY 2019 Federal Grant Award: $50,000.
Federally funded program to establish, expand, and improve access to and participation in the election process by people with disabilities. FY 2019 Federal Grant Award: $98,209.
- Representative Payee Program (PABRP)
Federally funded to help protect the rights of beneficiaries of Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI). FY 2019 Federal Grant Award: $103,685.
- State of Nebraska
State and federal funds are integrated to carry out a broad range of other advocacy approaches to promote empowerment of people with disabilities within Nebraska. FY 2019 Contract Award: $484,750 ($340,000 earmarked to pass through Disability Rights Nebraska to provide direct funding of locally operated and controlled Citizen Advocacy offices.)
