Emergency Management Access and Functional Needs Disability Awareness Training in Lincoln
Nebraskans with disabilities and those with other functional needs are our families, friends, and neighbors - in other words, our community. People with disabilities and those with other functional needs have the right to be rescued during disasters like anyone else. Unfortunately, their unique circumstances and needs can get overlooked before, during, and after a disaster or emergency. Current and future emergency planning efforts must address the issues, needs, and barriers during all phases of disaster/emergency management. The most effective way to do this is to include people with disabilities in planning for, responding to, and recovering from disasters and emergencies.
The Nebraska Council on Developmental Disabilities has invited Niagara University to host a training in Lincoln September 26 and 27, 2022 on the importance of incorporating persons with disabilities and other functional needs in emergency planning as well as some practical tools for inclusion.
